How CUT! works
CUT! turns the impossible question — “what's your favourite movie?” — into a series of easy ones. Instead of ranking everything at once, you compare two films at a time in a knockout tournament, and a single champion emerges. Here's exactly how it works.
The idea in one line
Your favourite films enter a bracket. Two go head-to-head, you keep the one you love more, and the winner advances — round after round — until one film is left standing. That last film is your favourite, decided through dozens of tiny, honest choices.
Step by step
- Choose how to start. Three ways in:
- Quick Play — jump into a ready-made bracket of 128 broadly-loved films. The fastest way to see how it works.
- Pick my own films — search and add the movies you love, no account needed.
- Import my ratings — upload a Letterboxd or IMDb ratings export and battle your highest-rated films.
- Pick a bracket size. Play the whole field or a quick top 64, 32 or 16. Bigger brackets take more picks but give a more confident result.
- Pick a winner each battle. Two films appear; tap the one you'd rewatch first. Go with your gut — the instant reaction is usually the honest one.
- Crown your champion. Keep going until one film remains. You'll see a celebratory reveal, the films it beat near the end (effectively your top five), and a visual Gauntlet Tree of every battle.
- Share your result. Get a shareable results card and a link to your own result page, so friends can see your bracket and play their own.
Solo or group
Play solo to find your own favourite, or use group party mode to merge several people's lists into one shared bracket on a single device — the whole room votes each battle and a shared favourite is crowned.
